 A game hunter spread a trail of cracked corn on the ground to ensnare some wild quail. Near the end of the trail, he set up a net just above the ground at head level to the quail. As the fowl followed the trail of food, eating with their heads down low, everything went well for them. But, as soon as they lifted their heads, they became entangled in the net.
We, like the quail, do well so long as we stay low. But, when we lift up ourselves, we become ensnared by the foolishness of pride. When we allow pride to go to our head it will eventually wring our neck. Therefore, we must stay humble or we'll stumble. “For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted” (Luke 14:11).
