Death Valley, California is the lowest, hottest, and driest place in the western hemisphere. The very name of this valley is dreary; yet amidst all it's harshness, more than 900 kinds of plants grow there. Some of these plants have roots which go downward as deep as 50 feet. Without their root system, the sun's scorching heat would soon dry them up causing them to wither away and die.
As it is with the desert plants, so it is with you and I. If we are to survive life's dreary valleys and overcome the heat of scorching trials, we must be deeply rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ.
Therefore, "trust in Him at all times" (Psalm 62:8). For "blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord... he shall be as a tree planted by the waters...that spreadeth out her roots...When heat cometh...her leaf shall be green...and shall not cease from yielding fruit" (Jer. 17:7,8).
