Edelweiss (ay-dul-vise) is the National Flower of Switzerland. The name comes from a German word meaning noble white. Because edelweiss only grows in remote solitary places, high in the mountains, their beauty is rarely enjoyed by human eyes. Quietly they live and toil and die -- unnoticed by all the world around them. But, does that mean their beauty is wasted? Nay! For God is on the mountains and He sees.
He sees you, also, as you toil in some remote solitary corner of His vineyard -- seemingly unnoticed. The beauty of your labor is not wasted. For "thy Father which seeth in secret... shall reward thee openly" (Matt. 6:4). Therefore, "be not weary in well doing" (2 Thess 3:13). But rather, "rejoice and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven" (Matt. 5:12).
