In the pioneer days of America, long before the invention of the farm tractor, farmers used a team of oxen to plow their fields. A yoke, consisting of a top crossbar and two "U" shaped bows, was used to unite the two animals together. This enabled the oxen to walk side-by-side and share one another's burden.
When Jesus invites us to take His yoke upon us, He likewise is inviting us to unite ourself with Him; thus enabling Him to walk alongside of us and share our many burdens in this world of toil and care.
Therefore, accept Jesus’ invitation today to "come..." (Matt. 11:28) and be yoked together with Him. For it is in Him alone that "ye shall find rest unto your souls" (Matt. 11:29).
