 Quicksand is a sandy soil that has been liquefied by an over saturation of water. The "quick" in the word quicksand refers to the quickness in which the soil shifts when anything or person applies pressure to it. The human body can float more easily on quicksand than water. Therefore, if caught in quicksand, it is important to relax and not struggle; because thrashing about will only cause you to sink deeper.
When circumstances, like quicksand, shift uncontrollably -- giving you that sinking feeling as though you were about to go under; cease from thrashing about -- trying to deliver yourself. Thrashing will only cause you to sink deeper.
Therefore "rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him" (Ps. 37:7). For “He will not forsake thee...” (Deut. 4:31). He has promised, “I...will deliver you” (Isaiah 46:4).
