An hireling is one who receives wages for some laborious service performed for an employer. Often it is required of an hireling to punch a time clock to record their hours of service -- and the sweetest time of the day is when it is time to clock out and go home.
One’s birth may be likened unto clocking into this world, but like an hireling, we also have an appointed time to clock out, for "it is appointed unto men once to die" (Heb. 9:27). To the servant of God, it is a time of clocking out and going home to be with the Lord -- to a place where "God shall wipe away all tears... and there shall be neither sorrow, nor... pain" (Rev. 21:4).
Therefore, dear child of God, do not be afraid of dying; for it is simply a time when "the dead which die in the Lord... may (clock out of this world and) rest from their labors..." (Rev. 14:13).
