 Lightning-bugs are tiny insects which produce small bursts of light as they fly about looking for a mate. Light is produced when luciferin, a chemical substance found in their cells, is brought into contact with an enzyme called luciferase. The word luciferin is a derivative of the Latin word for lucifer which means light-giver.
Like a lightning-bug, lucifer goes about producing small bursts of light, disguising himself as an angel of light in an attempt to mate up with those who are seeking for the true light.
Jesus said of himself, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life" (John 8:12).
Therefore, "resist the devil" (James 4:7) and treat him like you would any other bug -- cast him off.
