 Alessandro Volta (1745-1827) developed a battery known as the Voltic cell. This battery consisted of a negative electrode made of zinc and a positive electrode made of carbon. When these electrodes were dipped into a solution of sulfuric acid, the acid attacked the zinc electrode causing a transfer of ions that generated a current of electrical power.
Like the acid in a battery, negative situations in life sometimes attack us and eat away at our peace of mind. "But be of good cheer" (John 16:33); for we can experience a release of power, far greater than the power of any battery, when we "draw nigh to God" (James 4:8). "He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength" (Is 40:29). Therefore "trust in the Lord... and lean not unto thine own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5); for He has said "I give unto you power... over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you" (Luke 10:19).
