Compulsive Hoarders

 Love not... the things that
are in the world.

(1 John 2:15a)

Collyer Bros Home     Homer Collyer (1881-1947) and his brother Langley (1888-1947) became renown for their compulsive hoarding. During their lifetime they crammed an assortment of items, totaling over 103 tons in weight, into their Fifth Avenue townhouse in New York City. To thwart burglars, Langly set up booby traps throughout the house. In March 1947, as Langly was crawling though one of his booby trap newspaper tunnels to take food to his paralyzed brother, the tunnel collapsed. Langley was killed and Homer died of starvation soon thereafter.
Their love for worldly things ultimately led to their demise. And so shall it be for all who love worldly possessions more than Christ. For "if any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him"
(1Jn 2:15b). Therefore "set your affection on things above (in Heaven), not on things on the earth" (Col 3:2).
