On March 29, 1914, the liner Empress of Ireland was sailing down the St. Lawrence River when it collided with a Norwegian coal ship, the Storstad, and sank. A year later, a diver sought to recover the estimated $1 million in passenger's jewelry located in the ship's sunken safe. In so doing, his diving gear got entangled in the ship's debris causing him to suffocate and come short of his goal.
An entanglement is any diversion that causes one to come up short of reaching their goals. The diver's entanglement caused him to come up short. Likewise should we allow our focus in life to be diverted from Christ Jesus onto worldly cares, we will also come up short -- "short of...God" (Rm 3:23). Therefore, let us "delight (ourselves) in the Lord" (Ps 37:4) and always "look... unto Jesus" (Heb 12:2). For "blessed is the man... (whose) ...delight is...the Lord" (Ps 1:1,2).
