Early on the morning of July 17, 1856, the North Pennsylvania Railroad's Special Picnic Train was traveling from Philadelphia to Fort Washington with more than 700 children aboard. Coming towards the "Special" from the other end of the line was the Local Train which had pulled onto a siding to wait the required 15 minutes to allow the Special to pass. Its conductor, William Vanstavoren, stretched the rules a little and only waited 12 minutes. The result was a disastrous head-on collision.
When the railroad's rules were stretched, even in the smallest amount, calamity ensued. Likewise when we stretch God's rules and disobey them, ever so slightly, we can expect to reap ruinous results. Let us therefore "walk circumspectly" (Eph 5:15) at all times and "be obedient in all things" (2Co 2:9).
