Life Is Worth Living

 Fret not...

(Psalm 37:1)

Biologist     Ilya Mechnikov (1845-1916) was a Russian microbiologist who experienced some hard times in life. One such encounter was the death of his first wife in 1873, after which he tried to commit suicide. In 1880 he made another unsuccessful attempt to take his life. Finally in 1882 things began to look up for him. While studying the immune system, he discovered that there are cells in our body which kill infected cells and rid the body of disease. His discovery gave him a desire to live and further his research. In 1908 he was co-awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine. Had he been successful in committing suicide years earlier, the world would never have benefited from his research.
Perhaps, like Mechnikov, you also may have thought life was not worth living -- the world would be a better place without you. Think again. As Mechnikov found out, there are better days ahead. "There is hope in thine end, saith the Lord"
(Jer 31:17). Therefore "be of good courage" (Ps 27:14) and "let not your heart be troubled" (Jn 14:1).
