Overload

 Thou shalt rest...

(Exodus 23:12)

LifeRing     On November 10, 1928, the Vestris set sail from New York City to Buenos Aires. Due to overloading, several of the ship's intake and discharge chutes became submerged below the waterline allowing tons of seawater to pour in. Captain W. J. Carey refused to lighten the ship's load to correct the problem. Thus two days later, the ship sank 350 miles off the Chesapeake Bay.
Jesus cautioned us about "overload" in Luke 21:34 when He said "take heed... lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with (the) cares of this life." The word "overcharged" comes from the Greek word, "baruno" which means to "burden." Jesus offered to give us rest from the burdens of life when He invited us to "come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest"
(Mt 11:28). Be not like Captain Carey and refuse to lighten your load. Come to Jesus and "cast your burden upon the Lord" (Ps 55:22). He has promised "even to your old age... I will carry... you" (Isa 46:4).
