 Sam Huston, Jr (1843-1894) was the oldest son of the former president of the Republic of Texas, Sam Huston, Sr. (1793-1863). When the American Civil War broke out in 1861, Sam Jr. enlisted as a private in Company C of the 2nd Texas Infantry. On April 6, 1863, while fighting in the Battle of Pittsburg Landing in southwestern Tennessee, young Sam's life was saved from what could have been a fatal wound when the Bible he was carrying stopped an enemy bullet.
Just as Sam Jr's. Bible saved his life, the Holy Bible can save your life also. For "the gospel of Christ... is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth" (Rm 1:16). God's words are "life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh" (Pro 4:22). Therefore "hear the word of the Lord" (Jer 31:10) "and keep His commandments" (Deu 13:4). For "the... word... is able to save your soul" (Jam 1:21).
