 On May 10, 1913, jockey Roscoe Goose (1891-1971) rode Donerail in the 39th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. After a sluggish start, Donerail was running sixth in an eight horse race. On the final turn, running in fifth place, he still looked like a loser. Keeping his faith in Donerail, Roscoe scurried down the home stretch. Overcoming odds of 91-to-1, Roscoe and Donerail set a new speed track record and came in first by half a length. When others thought Roscoe was riding a loser, he never lost faith in his horse. Together they rode to victory.
When we "trust in the Lord with all (our) heart; and lean not unto (our) own understanding" (Pro 3:5), even in the "day of... gloominess" (Joel 2:2) when all seems lost, we likewise shall obtain the victory. For "God... always causeth us to triumph in Christ" (2Co 2:14) and "giveth us the victory" (1Cor 15:57). "Cast not away therefore your confidence" (Heb 10:35) in the Lord. Together with Christ, you shall also ride to victory.
