A New Heart

 A new heart...
(Ezekiel 36:26)

Surgeon     Louis Washkanky (1913-1967), a South African grocer, dying from an incurable heart disease, was the first human to receive a heart transplant. The operation took place in December 1967 and was performed by a surgical team lead by Dr. Christiaan Barnard (1922-2001). Although Washkanky died 18 days later from double pneumonia, the way was paved for other successful heart transplants that restored the joy of life to many.
Like Louis Washkanky dying of a physically broken heart, many are dying on the inside of an emotionally broken heart. They need a new heart -- "a merry heart (which) doeth good like a medicine"
(Pro 17:22. Jesus came to "heal the brokenhearted" (Lk 4:18) and to "turn our sorrow into joy" (Jn 16:20 Paraphrased). Therefore let us "be of good courage" (Ps 31:24) for "the redeemed of the Lord shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away" (Isa 51:11). "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning" (Ps 30:5).
