In 1968, John Stephen Akhwari (1938-) represented Tanzania at the Summer Olympics in Mexico City. Approximately half way through the 42 km marathon, John fell and hurt his knee and shoulder. Badly wounded, he got up and continued towards the finish line. When asked why he didn't quit he replied, "My country did not send me 5,000 miles to start the race; they sent me 5,000 miles to finish the race."
Like Akhwari, "let us run... the race that is set before us" (Heb 12:1) and never quit. Keep serving Jesus, no matter what happens. Should you fall, get back up and "go in the strength of the Lord" (Ps 71:16). In so doing you, like the Apostle Paul, will be able to say, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" (2Ti 4:7).
