God is with thee...
(Joshua 1:9)

     At age 34, British-born Beryl Markham (1902-1986) became the first woman to fly solo nonstop from England to North America. Just before nightfall on September 4, 1936, Beryl took off in her plane, The Messenger. For much of the journey she flew blind through darkness, sleet and rain -- unable to see past her wingtips. Undaunted by her plight, she pressed on for twenty-one hours and twenty-five minutes until she successfully completed her journey on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
     Like Beryl's journey, life sometimes takes us through dark places in which we have to "walk by faith (and) not by sight" (2Co 5:7). But, praise God, we do not have to go it alone. For Jesus said, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Heb 13:5). "I am with you always" (Mt 28:20). "I... will hold thy... hand" (Isa 41:13). Therefore when you go "through the valley of the shadow" (Ps 23:4) "be not afraid... for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord" (Jer 1:8).
