Don't Be Hasty

Be not hasty... to be angry...

(Ecclesiastes 7:9a)

Artie Gore     Arthur "Artie" Gore (1907-1986) was a professional basketball umpire. Once during a close game, he had called a lot of fouls. After calling one such foul he heard the player's coach cry out, "Get that dirty dog out of here and don't let me see his face again." Artie thought the coach was talking about him and began to get angry. He was so angry that he almost charged the coach with a technical foul when suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a dog running across the end of the court. It was then that he understand the coach's comment and began to laugh.
Solomon admonishes us in Proverbs 18:13, "He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly..." In other words, it is foolish to express your opinion before you have obtained and heard all the facts. Therefore "let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath"
(Jas 1:19) "for anger resteth in the bosom of fools" (Ecc 7:9b).
