Vladislav Tretiak (b: 1952), was a former goalie for the Soviet Union's national ice hockey team. At age 11, he began playing hockey at the Children and Youth Sports School. Tretiak went on to star for the Soviet Union, helping them win gold in the 1976 and 1984 Winter Olympics. In 2000, he was voted Best Russian Hockey Player of the 20th century. Yet for all his experience in knowing how to skate and maneuver on ice, he experienced a mishap in 1981. While stepping off a bus near Moscow, he slipped on a patch of ice and fell and broke his leg. Without even realizing what was about to happen, he took a misstep and went down.
Christians likewise need to be careful of falling. Without even realizing it, one may easily "be led away with the error of the wicked (and) fall from (their) ...stedfastness" (2Pe 3:17). Therefore "brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure" (2Pe 1:10). "Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall" (1Co 10:12).
