Eric Liddel (1902-1945), known as the Flying Scotsman, was Britain's favorite to win the 100 metre race in the 1924 Summer Olympics. The race was scheduled to be run on a Sunday. Because Eric was a born again Christian, Sunday was the day he had set aside each week to worship Jehovah God. Eric chose to put God first and refused to run on "the Lord's Day" (Rev 1:10). He decided instead to run in the 400 metre race which was held on a Friday. While walking to the starting blocks, someone handed him a piece of paper with the Bible verse from 1Samuel 2:30 written on it. It read, "Those who honor Me I will honor." Eric held that piece of paper in his hand as he ran the race. As a result of putting God first in his life, he not only won the race but he broke the world record.
Like Eric, God also wants to make you a winner. Therefore put Jesus first, above all else, in your life. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all... things shall be added unto you" (Mt 6:33).
