A Real Downer

Every one that is proud and... lifted up...
shall be brought low.

(Isaiah 2:12)

Gustavus_Adolphus     In 1626 Sweden's king Gustavus Adolphus (1594-1632) ordered a new warship named the Vasa to be built. Originally it was designed for only one row of cannons. Wanting to increase the ship's fire-power, the king ordered a second row of cannons. The hull was too small to hold the additional ballast required by this modification. Hence, the ship sat too high in the water making it top-heavy. On August 10, 1632, the Vasa set sail on its maiden voyage. Just 390 feet from shore, a gust of wind tilted the vessel causing it to sink and be brought low to the bottom of the harbor.
As in the case of the Vasa, high is not always best. Therefore let us be "meek and lowly"
(Mt 11:29) like Jesus; and "mind not high things, but..." (Rm 12:16) "cast down... every high thing that exalteth itself against... God" (2Co 10:5). For "the Lord... hath... respect unto the lowly" (Ps 138:6).
