A Lot To Live For

God comforteth those that are cast down.

(2Corinthians 7:6)

Baseball_Batter     Known as the Iron Horse of baseball, Lou Gehrig (1903-1941) demonstrated his love of the game by playing 2,130 consecutive games in over 13 seasons, from June 1925 to April 1939. He played even when suffering from numerous ailments, including 17 fractures in his hands. However, in 1938 the Iron Horse gradually began to slow down. After playing just eight games in the 1939 season, Lou benched himself "for the good of the team." Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with the deadly disease known today as Lou Gehrig's Disease. On July 4, 1939, Yankee Stadium hosted the Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day. During the ceremony Lou told the crowd, "I might have been given a bad break, but I have an awful lot to live for."
Like Gehrig, you also may have gotten a bad break in life, but you likewise still have much to live for. For Jesus came that you might have "abundant life"
(Jn 10:10 Paraphrased). He promised to "lift you up" (Jas 4:10) and "deliver… in time of trouble" (Ps 41:1). Therefore when things go wrong, "fret not thyself" (Ps 37:7) but "cast all your care upon Him, for He careth for you" (1Pe 5:7).
