On October 25, 1964, Jim Marshall (B: 1937), was playing professional football for the Minnesota Vikings. After picking up a fumble made by San Francisco 49ers' Billy Kilmer, he started toward the end zone. Thinking he was on his way to making a touchdown for his team, Jim ran 66 yards in the wrong direction to his own end zone. His mistake gave 2 points to the 49ers'. It is considered one of the worst plays ever made in the National Football League. It earned him the nickname "Wrong Way Marshall."
Like Jim Marshall, it's easy to think you're doing the right thing when in reality you're not. King Solomon once said, "Every way of a man is right in his own eyes" (Prov 21:2). Unfortunately man's way is not always the right way. Solomon also said, "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Prov 14:12). It's important therefore that we follow "the way of life" (Jer 21:8) by following Jesus Christ in all we do. He said, "I am the way" (Jn 14:6), "he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life" (Jn 8:12).
