A Right Heart

 Is thine heart right…
(2Kings 10:15)

Sir Walter Raleigh     Sir Walter Raleigh (1554-1618) was a British explorer who in 1617 was commissioned by the King of England to search for gold in Guiana, South America. Part of his agreement with the king was that he was not to engage in any hostilities with the Spanish. When the expedition reached the mouth of the Orinoco River in South America, Raleigh was sick with fever and stayed behind with the ships. He sent his most trusted captain, Lawrence Kemys, up the river to look for gold. Along the way, Kemys and his men found and attacked a Spanish settlement. This was a direct violation of Raleigh's agreement with the king. Upon his return to England, he was condemned to death in order to appease the Spanish ambassador. As Raleigh's head lay on the block awaiting the axe, someone commented that his head should be facing East. Raleigh replied, "What does it matter how the head lie, if the heart be right?"
Like Raleigh, "let your heart… also be perfect with... God... and... keep His commandments"
(1Ki 8:61). Then shall "the Lord... command His blessing upon you... in all that you set your hand unto" (Deu 28:8).
