Stumpy's Triumphant Kick

With God all things are possible.

(Mark 10:27)

Kicker     On the afternoon of November 8, 1970, the New Orleans Saints football team was losing to the Detroit Lions 17-16. With the ball at the Saints' 45 yard line and only 2 seconds remaining on the clock, Tom Dempsey (1947-2020), the kicker born without toes on his right foot, was called in by the Saints' coach to try for a field goal. As soon as the ball was snapped Stumpy, as he was affectionately called by his teammates, did the impossible. Wearing a specially designed shoe, he blasted the ball an astounding 63 yards through the goal posts completing the longest field goal to date in the history of the National League. Lions' linebacker Wayne Walker was so amazed that he exclaimed, "Dempsey didn't kick that field goal. God kicked it."
"There is nothing too hard for God"
(Jer 32:17). Just as He enabled Tom Dempsey to do the impossible, He will also do the same for you. "God is no respecter of persons" (Act 10:34). "He... giveth... power unto His people" (Ps 68:35) that they may "be strong and do exploits" (Dan 11:32). Therefore "be of good cheer" (Jn 16:33) for "in all... things you are more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ who loves you" (Rm 8:37 paraphrased).
